Nova Southeastern University’s Halmos College of Arts and Sciences is recruiting temporary Sea Turtle Workers to support the Broward County Sea Turtle Conservation Programme, monitoring sea turtle nesting behaviour on Broward County beaches in compliance with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Marine Turtle Permit and Guidelines. The position is grant-funded and temporary in nature; pay is set according to level of experience with the programme.

The role operates across two experience levels. Marine Turtle Specialist I staff are primarily responsible for completing nightly checks of marine turtle nest cages and assisting disoriented hatchlings under the supervision of an FWC-permitted programme administrator. Marine Turtle Specialist II staff take on a broader remit including locating, identifying, and marking marine turtle nest sites and false crawls, relocating imperiled nests, excavating nests and assessing hatching success, constructing and maintaining restraining cages, monitoring nesting activity in relation to beach renourishment projects, assessing hatchling disorientation events, collecting and entering data, and assisting in the training and supervision of new beach staff.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology or a related field is preferred.
