Temporary Marine Ecosystems Project Officer

Cyngor Gwynedd (Gwynedd Council) is recruiting a Temporary Marine Ecosystems Project Officer to support the council’s work on marine and coastal ecosystem management in Gwynedd, Wales. The role contributes to local marine conservation initiatives, the implementation of marine and coastal policy, and stakeholder engagement across communities, sectors and statutory partners. Gwynedd covers a significant stretch of the Welsh coast, including Cardigan Bay and the Llŷn Peninsula, with active marine protected areas and substantial fisheries activity.

Responsibilities include project management of marine and coastal ecosystem initiatives; liaison with statutory bodies, local communities and other partners; preparation of technical and policy documents; data collection, analysis and reporting on marine ecosystem status; and supporting public consultation and stakeholder engagement processes. The post-holder will work closely with environmental, planning and policy colleagues across the council and with external partners.

The role requires a relevant degree (marine science, environmental management, ecology or related), experience in project delivery (preferably in marine or coastal contexts), strong written and spoken communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse stakeholders. Welsh language ability is essential or desirable as specified in the Welsh Language Profile for the role.
