Ocean Wise Conservation Association

Ocean Wise Conservation Association is hiring a Summer Educator for its Mountains to Oceans programme to deliver hands-on, place-based education in schools and communities across Western Canada and beyond. The position is full-time on a short-term, eight-week contract with no guarantee of extension, based in Vancouver, BC. The typical work week is 37.5 hours, with flexibility required for evenings, weekends, holidays, and time outside standard business hours.

The Summer Educator delivers Ocean Wise on-site and community-based programmes connecting young people and families with watershed and ocean conservation, climate action, and Indigenous-led stewardship. Day-to-day responsibilities include leading programme sessions in schools, community centres, and outdoor sites; setting up and taking down activity stations; supporting youth audiences from K to 12; representing Ocean Wise at events and tabling activities; tracking participant numbers and feedback; and supporting community partners on logistics and follow-up.

The role requires travel, sometimes for extended periods (up to four weeks at a time), across Western Canada and beyond. On non-program delivery days, the Educator works remotely or from Ocean Wise downtown Vancouver head office. The Educator collaborates with Ocean Wise Education and Engagement teams to ensure consistent messaging, audience-appropriate delivery, and meaningful learning outcomes.

Required qualifications include experience working with children and youth in formal or informal education settings; strong public speaking, facilitation, and interpersonal skills; comfort working independently in unfamiliar communities and outdoor environments; willingness to travel extensively and to work flexible hours; and a valid driver license. A background in environmental science, education, conservation, or related fields is desirable. Spanish, French, or Indigenous language ability and prior experience working with Indigenous communities are an asset. Benefits include $22 CAD per hour, 4% pay in lieu of vacation days, 5 paid sick days, statutory holidays, and professional development opportunities.
