Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF)

The Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF) is recruiting interns for the Spring 2027 Marine Education and Conservation Internship at REEF’s headquarters in Key Largo, Florida. REEF is a marine conservation NGO that engages volunteer SCUBA divers and citizen scientists in marine conservation, with active programmes including the long-running Volunteer Fish Survey Project, the Grouper Moon Project, Invasive Lionfish programmes and the SeaJournal expedition programme.

REEF’s Marine Education and Conservation Internships provide hands-on experience in marine conservation, science communication, education, citizen science and event coordination at REEF’s Key Largo headquarters. Interns work across REEF’s programmes and operations, contributing to REEF’s mission to conserve marine ecosystems by engaging and inspiring the public through ocean education, citizen science and partnerships with the scientific community.

Responsibilities include supporting REEF’s marine conservation programmes including the Volunteer Fish Survey Project, Grouper Moon Project and Invasive Lionfish programmes; supporting REEF’s education and outreach programmes including school programmes, public events and community engagement; supporting REEF’s communications including the website, social media, newsletter and member communications; supporting REEF’s citizen science database and data management; supporting REEF’s field work and expedition programmes as appropriate; and contributing to REEF’s broader operations and team culture.

Required qualifications include strong interest in marine conservation, education or science communication; current undergraduate or recent graduate status in marine biology, marine science, environmental science, communications, education or related field; strong written and verbal communication skills; the ability to live and work in Key Largo, Florida (housing provided); SCUBA certification is desirable but not required; and a commitment to REEF’s mission and to public engagement in marine conservation. Stipend of $400 per month plus housing.
