Senior Research Analyst (Fisheries and Aquaculture)

WorldFish is recruiting a Senior Research Analyst (Fisheries and Aquaculture) to be based in Gizo, Solomon Islands. WorldFish is an international research organisation working to improve livelihoods and food security through sustainable and inclusive fisheries and aquaculture, with research programmes across Asia, Africa and the Pacific. The Solomon Islands programme is one of WorldFish’s longest-running country programmes, working in partnership with the Government of Solomon Islands, communities, NGOs and donors to support sustainable fisheries and coastal livelihoods.
The Senior Research Analyst will lead applied research and analysis on fisheries and aquaculture in Solomon Islands, including small-scale coastal fisheries, community-based fisheries management, nutrition and food security, gender and social inclusion, and climate adaptation. Responsibilities include leading and contributing to applied research projects in fisheries and aquaculture; conducting quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis; engaging with the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, provincial governments, partner NGOs, communities and donors; contributing to research publications, technical reports and policy briefs; supporting WorldFish’s monitoring, evaluation and learning systems; mentoring junior researchers and supporting capacity building; and contributing to WorldFish’s broader Pacific and global research strategy.
Required qualifications include an advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in fisheries science, fisheries economics, marine biology, marine policy, environmental science, development studies or related field; significant experience in applied research on small-scale fisheries, aquaculture or coastal livelihoods, ideally in Pacific Island contexts; strong quantitative and qualitative research and analytical skills; experience engaging with government, communities and donors; strong written and verbal communication skills; the ability to live and work in Gizo, Solomon Islands; cultural fluency including experience working with Pacific Island governments and communities; and commitment to WorldFish’s mission and to applied research on sustainable and inclusive fisheries and aquaculture.
