The Ocean Cleanup

The Ocean Cleanup is hiring a Senior Business Development Manager to grow and manage strategic partnerships across Latin America. The position is full-time and remote, based in a relevant LATAM location, with start date as soon as possible. The Senior Business Development Manager works to secure financial and operational partnerships that enable expansion of Interceptor deployments in Latin America rivers, including the world most polluting rivers identified by The Ocean Cleanup research.

The role builds and manages a pipeline of corporate, philanthropic, and public-sector partnerships across the region, structures funding deals, negotiates partnership agreements, and works closely with internal teams including operations, communications, finance, and legal. Day-to-day responsibilities include identifying and qualifying prospects; developing tailored partnership proposals; presenting to senior decision-makers; managing complex multi-stakeholder negotiations; and shepherding signed agreements through onboarding into long-term partner management.

Additional responsibilities include representing The Ocean Cleanup at high-level meetings, conferences, and partnership events across the region; coordinating with media and communications teams to support partner storytelling; supporting partner due diligence and risk assessment; tracking pipeline metrics and forecasts; and contributing to overall LATAM strategy alongside the operations leadership team. The role requires extensive travel within Latin America and occasional travel to the Rotterdam headquarters.

Required qualifications include significant senior business development, partnerships, or corporate fundraising experience, ideally in sustainability, infrastructure, environmental services, or related sectors; demonstrated track record of closing multi-million-dollar partnerships or deals; deep network in Latin American corporate, philanthropic, and government sectors; fluency in Spanish and English (Portuguese is a plus); strong negotiation, presentation, and writing skills; and the ability to work autonomously in a remote, distributed organisation. Familiarity with environmental issues including plastic pollution is desirable.
