School & Teacher Programs Coordinator, Education
Aquarium of the Pacific
Aquarium of the Pacific is hiring a School and Teacher Programs Coordinator within the Education department to develop and deliver education programmes for K to 12 students and educators across Southern California. The position is full-time on a five-day on-site schedule, Tuesday through Saturday, with varying start times. The Coordinator supports the Aquarium mission to instill a sense of wonder, respect, and stewardship for the Pacific Ocean and the planet.
Day-to-day responsibilities include planning, scheduling, and delivering field trips, virtual programmes, outreach, and on-site classes that align with state science standards and Next Generation Science Standards. The Coordinator works closely with classroom teachers, district partners, and informal educators to design content that supports student learning, equitable access, and conservation literacy. The role also includes leading teacher professional development workshops, supporting summer programmes and special events, and contributing to programme evaluation and continuous improvement.
Additional duties include coordinating logistics for visiting school groups, supervising program facilitators and volunteers during sessions, maintaining classroom and field-trip supplies and live animal ambassadors used in education, and managing programme registrations, communications, and reporting. The Coordinator collaborates with Animal Husbandry, Visitor Experience, and Conservation teams to ensure accurate, engaging, and welfare-aligned content, and supports cross-departmental initiatives that connect students and teachers with ocean science and conservation careers.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor degree in education, biology, marine science, environmental studies, or a related field; classroom or informal-education teaching experience; familiarity with the Next Generation Science Standards; strong communication, project management, and group facilitation skills; and the ability to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings. Bilingual (Spanish/English) ability and prior experience with school districts in Long Beach, Los Angeles, and Orange Counties are desirable. Comfort handling live ambassador animals and working in outdoor and indoor settings is required.
