Research Officer – Seaweed

BANYU (PT Panen Laut Lestari) is recruiting a Research Officer to support the company’s work on sustainable seaweed farming in Indonesia. BANYU is a regenerative ocean agriculture company working to develop sustainable seaweed farming as a livelihood option for coastal communities in Indonesia and as a contribution to climate, food and ocean health solutions. The company works closely with smallholder farmers, scientists and partners across Indonesia’s seaweed farming regions.

The Research Officer supports BANYU’s applied research programme on seaweed cultivation, ecology, processing and impact. Responsibilities include designing and conducting applied research on seaweed cultivation methods, productivity, environmental conditions, ecosystem interactions and supply chain dynamics; conducting field surveys and data collection in seaweed farming communities; supporting laboratory analyses; analysing and reporting research data; contributing to scientific publications and technical reports; engaging with smallholder farmers, scientific partners and other stakeholders; and supporting BANYU’s broader research and development strategy.

Required qualifications include a relevant degree (marine biology, marine science, aquaculture, fisheries, environmental science or related); experience in applied research, ideally in aquaculture, marine ecology or coastal communities; strong field research and data analysis skills; the ability to work in remote coastal locations and engage with smallholder farmers; strong written and verbal communication skills in Indonesian and English; and a commitment to BANYU’s mission to develop sustainable seaweed farming as a contribution to coastal livelihoods, climate and ocean health.
