Position Overview

The National Indigenous Employment and Training Alliance is hiring a Research Assistant on a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2028, paying AUD $80,000 per annum, with a Brisbane-based hybrid arrangement preferred and other capital cities considered.
The Alliance is Australia’s national voice for Indigenous employment and training, and the only Indigenous-led peak body solely focused on this sector. As an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation governed by an Indigenous board and led by an Indigenous CEO, it advocates for member organisations, builds the evidence base that shapes policy, and gives industry the tools to make Indigenous employment commitments real.
The Research Assistant reports to the Research Manager and supports a growing research function across national projects, data collection, and evidence-based initiatives that inform policy, advocacy, and sector development.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to project design, desktop reviews, background research, and the preparation of reports, briefings, presentations, and other research outputs.
- Collect and maintain research data, including surveys, interviews, consultations, summaries, tables, and visual materials.
- Coordinate research projects by scheduling activities, tracking milestones, maintaining documentation, and supporting research administration.
- Prepare materials and assist with stakeholder communication for research activities.
- Ensure research activities are culturally informed, ethically delivered, and aligned with the Alliance’s commitment to systemic change.
Requirements
- Relevant qualification in social sciences, policy, business, health, education, or equivalent experience.
- Experience supporting research, policy, evaluation, or project activities.
- Strong written communication, organisation, and research support skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work collaboratively within a team environment.
- This is an identified position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants, in accordance with Section 8 of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the employment and training sector.
Additional Notes
- Fixed-term contract until 30 June 2028 with potential extension.
- Brisbane-based preferred; other capital city locations may be considered. Hybrid work environment.
