Oceans Campaign, Beyond Seafood Project Lead (12-month position)

Website Greenpeace USA

Greenpeace USA is hiring an Oceans Campaign Beyond Seafood Project Lead for a 12-month position. The Beyond Seafood Campaign focuses on the intersection of human rights, labour, and environmental abuses in tuna fisheries, working in partnership with Greenpeace USA and Greenpeace East Asia to ensure tuna fisheries are no longer caught with forced labour or indiscriminately driving marine life populations toward extinction.

The Project Lead drives the planning and design of the Beyond Seafood Campaign, building the project with public engagement at every level (online, offline, fundraising) and reaching diverse audiences. The role serves as a key strategic advisor to the Oceans Campaign Director and the Program Director, builds and task-manages multidisciplinary teams of campaign, engagement, and action specialists, and works in close coordination with other Project Leaders and the global Greenpeace network. The position reports to the Oceans Campaign Director.

Responsibilities span three main areas. Strategy: developing work plans for ambitious, high-impact, well-researched campaign projects that confront politicians and corporations, maintaining sustainable timelines and clear roles via DARCI charts, ensuring the project supports Greenpeace long-term organizational and campaign goals, identifying new opportunities to advance objectives, and embedding a culture of learning and evaluation. Leadership and management: task managing a team of up to 12 staff, line managing 1 to 4 people including development and performance reviews, hiring new project staff, making final decisions on project output, delegating and task managing key pieces of work, and managing a significant project budget with full monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. Collaboration and communication: developing positive relationships with Greenpeace colleagues globally and with external stakeholders.

Required experience includes a minimum of 7 years in public interest campaigning (environmental organizations preferred), people management experience, proven experience directing a project from conception to completion, demonstrated experience in research and writing, public speaking, issue advocacy and mobilizing people to action, a track record of developing creative campaign content that engages diverse communities, effective budget management experience, experience empowering others to build trusting and effective teams, and experience navigating and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Required skills include excellent spoken and written English, the ability to represent Greenpeace effectively with media, strong interpersonal skills, strategic and motivational leadership, strong decision-making, project leadership and planning skills, and commitment to progressive values and peaceful non-violent direct action.
