Oceanographic Mooring Deployment Specialist

CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. is hiring an Oceanographic Mooring Deployment Specialist to support the planning, deployment, recovery, and servicing of oceanographic moorings and instrumentation in support of marine environmental research and monitoring programmes. The role is based at the company headquarters in Stuart, Florida, with significant domestic and international travel and time at sea. CSA is a global marine environmental consulting firm serving clients in industry, government, and academia.
The Specialist contributes to mooring design and engineering, fabrication and pre-mobilisation testing of mooring systems, deck operations at sea, and post-deployment servicing and data recovery. Day-to-day work includes assembling mooring components such as anchors, lines, buoyancy modules, acoustic releases, and instrument packages; supporting the integration of current meters, ADCPs, CTDs, water quality sondes, and other oceanographic sensors; managing logistics for shipping and customs of equipment to project sites; coordinating with vessel operators and crews to plan safe deployments and recoveries; and contributing to data download, quality control, and reporting after recovery.
Additional responsibilities include leading or supporting field teams during multi-week offshore campaigns; preparing project documentation including mooring diagrams, deployment plans, deck procedures, and lessons learned; supporting client communications and field reporting; maintaining inventories of mooring hardware and instruments; and contributing to safety culture, training, and continuous improvement of mooring operations. The Specialist works closely with CSA project managers, scientists, technicians, and clients across multiple sectors including energy, ports, dredging, and environmental impact assessment.
Required qualifications include significant experience in mooring deployment and recovery operations or related at-sea fieldwork; familiarity with a range of oceanographic instruments and acoustic releases; mechanical aptitude for assembling, testing, and troubleshooting mooring hardware in shop and at sea; willingness to travel extensively, including international travel, and to work long hours at sea; and the ability to work safely on the deck of a research or work vessel in variable conditions. A bachelor degree in marine science, ocean engineering, or a related field is desirable, as are credentials such as STCW Basic Safety Training, a Transportation Worker Identification Credential, scuba diving certification, and small boat handling experience.
