Description
The North West Coastal Forum is hiring a full-time, home-based North West Coastal Coordinator on a 12-month fixed-term contract at £28,509 per annum, with applications closing Monday 29 June 2026 and an anticipated start date of 7 September 2026.
The North West Coastal Forum is England’s longest standing regional Coastal Forum, registered as a charity in England and Wales in 2024 (charity number 1206825). Its aim is to promote and advance, for the public benefit, the conservation, protection, and improvement of the physical and natural environment in the coastal areas of North West England, including areas under other national jurisdictions, and education in sustainable development.
The Coordinator works under the guidance of the Board of Trustees, reporting directly to the Chair, and plays a pivotal role in engaging new partners across the North West and helping the Forum achieve its charitable aims through workshops, events, research, community development, and project delivery. Mentoring is available, and the role includes opportunities to engage in national coastal work through the Coastal Partnerships Network.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver the work programme of the North West Coastal Forum.
- Provide relevant information and advice, including on strategic policy development.
- Advance education on coastal sustainability through workshops and events.
- Facilitate greater coordination and collaboration on coastal issues and projects.
- Undertake and participate in scientific research and community development.
- Develop and participate in a range of coastal projects.
- Identify and secure resources for future work.
- Engage new partners across the North West to help the Forum achieve its charitable aims.
- Participate in national coastal work through the Coastal Partnerships Network.
Requirements
- Degree in a relevant discipline such as marine and coastal management, environmental science, or geography with a strong coastal or marine management element, or equivalent experience.
- Thorough appreciation of environmental, social, and economic issues at the coast.
- Sound understanding of integrated coastal zone management and its application at local, regional, and national levels.
- Effective communication, presentational, project management, and IT skills.
- Good time and workload management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively.
- Access to a car or good public transport network; the post requires extensive travel throughout and beyond the North West.
Additional Notes
- Home-based in North West England with occasional UK travel.
- 12-month fixed-term contract, with possible extension subject to funding.
- 35 hours per week.
