The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation is hiring a Native Landscapes and Garden Center Intern in Sanibel, Florida, a six-month full-time internship with hourly wage starting at $14 and an application deadline of June 20, 2026.

The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) operates the Native Landscapes and Garden Center, a non-profit retail nursery dedicated to landscaping that improves native habitat and wildlife on and around Sanibel and Captiva Islands. The Garden Center sits within SCCF broader conservation work in Southwest Florida.

The intern assists with day-to-day garden and nursery operations and supports landscape installation and maintenance services. The role offers in-depth exposure to South Florida native plants and firsthand experience across an environmentally minded garden, nursery, and landscaping business.

Responsibilities

• Assist with retail nursery operations and plant care: watering, potting, pruning, and weeding.
• Support landscape installation and maintenance services.
• Provide customer service to nursery visitors and clients.
• Work alongside the staff gardener on the upkeep of two acres of demonstration gardens surrounding the Garden Center.

Requirements

• Strong interest in plants and conservation.
• Bachelor degree in horticulture, biology, environmental science, ecology, or a related field is preferred.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Willingness to work outdoors in subtropical conditions, including high heat, humidity, and insects.
• Valid U.S. driver license.

Additional Notes

• Six-month internship; 37 to 40 hours per week.
• Anticipated start: on or after July 6, 2026; anticipated end: on or after January 6, 2027.
• Location: 1300 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, Florida.
