Description
The National Oceanography Centre (NOC) is hiring a Multi-Skilled Engineer (Electrical or Mechanical) at its Southampton site, on a fixed-term six-month appointment with a salary of £35,151 to £38,662 annually for 37 hours per week.

The Multi-Skilled Engineer joins the Estates Department to maintain and improve the Southampton site, which combines simple offices and complex laboratories and workshops at the cutting edge of marine science.
Responsibilities
- Deliver planned and reactive maintenance alongside minor project works on the NOC Southampton site.
- Work across a wide range of maintenance tasks including low voltage electrical, BMS, fire alarms, security systems, and AHUs.
- Support maintenance in offices, complex laboratories, and specialised research workshops.
- Contribute to facility readiness and reliability for active oceanographic research operations.
- Coordinate with research staff and Estates colleagues to schedule and execute maintenance with minimal disruption.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, issues identified, and follow-up actions.
Requirements
- Mechanical or Electrical qualification at NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
- Previous knowledge of building services in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Experience of electrical or mechanical installation and maintenance.
- Ability to work in a complex, dynamic research environment with multiple stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn additional systems as required.
Additional Notes
- 30 days contractual annual leave plus 3.5 closure days and bank holidays.
- 10 percent employer pension contribution with 15 percent NI saving on employee contributions above 5 percent (salary sacrifice scheme).
- Death in Service cover (3 times annual salary) provided by Aviva from day one.
- Additional training provided as required.
