RINA is hiring a Marine Junior Surveyor Intern based in Viareggio, Italy, within the Mediterranean and Africa Marine Division.

The Junior Surveyor supports the surveying team by performing routine inspections, maintaining accurate documentation, and staying informed about evolving industry practices. The role applies knowledge of Rules, Regulations, and industry concepts within RINA’s framework while progressing toward fully competent surveyor status.
Responsibilities
- Act as a professional specialist, applying knowledge of rules, regulations, and industry concepts within RINA’s framework.
- Conduct routine surveys on classed ships, platforms, or marine structures for compliance with classification and statutory requirements, under the guidance of a Surveyor, Senior Surveyor, or Principal Surveyor.
- Prepare technically accurate and timely reports of inspections and surveys.
- Maintain survey files in an orderly and up-to-date manner within the assigned area of responsibility.
- Maintain awareness of new working methods and developments affecting assigned responsibilities; engage in ongoing learning to enhance surveying skills.
- Recommend new approaches to problems, seeking guidance from more experienced surveyors.
- Collaborate with experienced surveyors to ensure accurate and effective survey outcomes; contribute to a collaborative team environment.
- Contribute to maintaining the quality of surveying work and assist in adherence to established standards and procedures.
- Engage with clients as directed by more experienced surveyors, contributing to problem-solving within area of expertise.
- Participate actively in training programs and developmental activities to progress toward becoming a fully competent surveyor.
- Uphold the highest ethical standards in all professional interactions, ensuring integrity, transparency, and fairness in survey processes.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Naval Engineering.
- Proficiency in English language relevant to the scope of classification, statutory certification, and related services.
- Ability to develop a working knowledge of RINA Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and instructions, as well as the RINA Employee Safety Policy.
- Ability to understand engineering plans and basic knowledge of shipbuilding practices and ship operations.
- Ability to perform new building surveys, in-service surveys, or testing activities including assessing materials, hull and machinery compliance, and issuing certificates and reports per applicable rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of ships’ engineering systems and machinery.
- Knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities.
- Knowledge of related technical interfaces required for group project work.
