Florida Atlantic University Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute (FAU HBOI) is hiring a Marine Educator to deliver public education and outreach programmes at its Fort Pierce, Florida campus. The position is full-time, non-exempt Support Personnel, working Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional evenings required for special events year-round. FAU HBOI is one of the country leading oceanographic research institutes, with strengths in marine biology, biomedical research, and ocean engineering.

The Marine Educator plans, develops, and delivers public programmes including guided campus tours, school and group programmes, lab and aquarium tours, day camps, public lectures, and special events. The role works closely with HBOI scientists, communications staff, and educators to translate ongoing ocean research into accessible content for school groups, families, and adult audiences. The Educator also supports curriculum development, programme evaluation, and inclusive education practices that engage diverse audiences in Florida and beyond.

Additional responsibilities include leading and supporting volunteers and interns; coordinating logistics, scheduling, and registration for visiting groups; maintaining education materials, props, and ambassador tanks; supporting safety procedures and accessibility at on-site programmes; representing HBOI at community events and tabling activities; and contributing to social media and other communications efforts in collaboration with the HBOI marketing team. The Educator participates in ongoing training to remain current on HBOI research and broader marine science topics.

Required qualifications include a Bachelor degree in marine science, biology, environmental education, communication, or a related field; experience teaching or facilitating learning for K to 12 and adult audiences; strong public speaking and interpersonal skills; comfort working outdoors and in laboratory or aquarium environments; and willingness to work weekends and occasional evenings. Spanish-language fluency, experience in informal science education, and familiarity with Florida marine ecosystems are desirable.
