Junior Project Manager, Indonesia

The Ocean Cleanup is hiring a Junior Project Manager based in Jakarta, Indonesia to support its plastic interception programmes in the country. The position is full-time and remote (preferably based in Jakarta), with start date as soon as possible. The Ocean Cleanup develops and scales advanced technologies to rid the world oceans of plastic, combining ocean cleanup systems with intercepting plastic in rivers before it reaches the sea.

The Junior Project Manager supports planning, execution, and reporting on operational projects in Indonesia, working closely with the in-country team, partners, and headquarters in Rotterdam. Day-to-day responsibilities include maintaining detailed project plans, action logs, and stakeholder maps; supporting permit and partner agreement workflows; coordinating with operations, engineering, communications, and finance teams; preparing concise updates and decision papers for project leadership; and supporting field visits to operational sites.

Additional responsibilities include helping to translate strategy into delivery by identifying interdependencies, escalating risks early, and feeding lessons learned back into future project design. The Project Manager will collaborate with multiple stakeholders inside and outside the organisation, including government agencies, local partners, and contractors. The role offers exposure to a fast-moving international environmental non-profit with field operations across multiple countries.

Required qualifications include a bachelor degree in engineering, environmental science, business, or a related discipline; one to three years of project coordination or project management experience, ideally in operations, engineering, environmental, or development settings; strong organisational and communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia; comfort working in a fast-paced, growing organisation; and residency permits or the ability to work in Indonesia. Experience with project management tools and software is a plus.
