Laguna Ocean Foundation is seeking an illustrator to support the development of a series of illustrations for Harry the Hermit Crab, a statewide StoryMap focused on tidepool education, marine conservation, and ocean literacy across California. The project aims to produce engaging educational visuals to help students, educators, and community members better understand intertidal ecosystems, marine biodiversity, and conservation practices along California’s coastline.
The illustrator will collaborate with the foundation’s team to create artwork centred on Harry the Hermit Crab and associated tidepool environments, species, and conservation themes, with illustrations formatted for use in a digital StoryMap for environmental education and public engagement. Strong illustration skills and an interest in environmental education, marine ecosystems, science communication, or conservation storytelling are sought; prior experience creating educational, youth-focused, or scientific illustrations is encouraged but not required. Applications consisting of a portfolio, relevant experience, and a brief introduction should be sent to isabela@lagunaoceanfoundation.org.
