The Marine Biological Association is hiring an HR Manager in Plymouth, England, United Kingdom, on a part-time, on-site basis to lead key HR processes and shape, support, recruit, and retain the talent driving its mission of Pioneering Science for the Health of our Ocean.

The MBA is a long-established marine science organisation entering an exciting period of growth as it moves into the implementation phase of a new strategy. People sit at the heart of the organisation’s vision and the HR function is central to that capacity building.

This newly created role is hands-on and varied, reporting to the Director of Finance and HR. The HR Manager line manages the HR Officer, enhances and modernises systems and processes, and ensures compliance with current legislation and best practice.


Responsibilities

  • Lead key HR processes and work closely with colleagues across the organisation.
  • Line manage the HR Officer.
  • Enhance and modernise HR systems and processes.
  • Ensure compliance with current employment legislation and best practice.
  • Shape, support, recruit, and retain talent driving the MBA’s strategy.
  • Operate both hands-on and strategically, partnering with the Director of Finance and HR to build capacity.

Requirements

  • Proactive, people-focused HR Manager with strong knowledge of employment law.
  • Highly organised and forward-thinking.
  • Ability to thrive in a busy, collaborative environment.
  • Right to live and work in the UK. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
