Forestry England is hiring a Historic Environment Adviser based in Grizedale, Ambleside or Bellingham, Hexham, United Kingdom, at £33,854 per year, with applications due June 14, 2026.

The Historic Environment Adviser leads Forestry England’s work championing the historic environment across the North of England. The role works with frontline forestry teams to identify, protect, and celebrate historic environment features, inspiring others to support the broader mission of growing forests for all, for life.
Responsibilities
- Champion the historic environment across Forestry England’s North England estate.
- Work with frontline forestry teams to identify, protect, and celebrate historic environment features.
- Inspire others to support Forestry England’s historic environment work, championing organisational values.
- Support the Lead Historic Environment Advisor on cross-region priorities.
- Contribute to the Environment and Nature Recovery Team within National Operations.
Requirements
- Specialist knowledge of historic environment principles and practice.
- Strong communication and influencing skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with frontline forestry teams.
- Civil Service Behaviours assessed at interview: Seeing the Big Picture, Working Together, Communicating and Influencing.
Additional Notes
- 3-year fixed term appointment, with the possibility of extension or permanency.
- 37 hours per week.
- Postholder will be part of the Environment and Nature Recovery Team in National Operations, managed by the Lead Historic Environment Advisor.
- Based out of Forestry England’s Grizedale or Bellingham offices.
- Pension contribution from Forestry England averages 28.97 percent toward the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension Scheme.
