Full-Time Researcher, Department of Marine Resources

The Mérida Unit of Cinvestav (Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados del Instituto Politécnico Nacional) is recruiting a Full-Time Researcher for the Department of Marine Resources. Cinvestav is one of Mexico’s premier research institutions, and the Mérida Unit’s Department of Marine Resources is a leading centre for marine science research in the Yucatán Peninsula and the wider Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean.
The successful candidate will join the Department of Marine Resources as a full-time researcher, with responsibilities for original scientific research, teaching at the graduate level (Master’s and PhD), supervision of graduate students, and contributing to the academic and institutional life of the Unit and Department. Research areas of interest include marine ecology, fisheries science, coastal and marine ecosystem dynamics, marine biodiversity, oceanography and related fields. The Department maintains active research programmes across the Yucatán Peninsula, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean, and collaborates extensively with national and international partners.
Responsibilities include conducting original scientific research and publishing in peer-reviewed journals; teaching at the graduate level and supervising Master’s and PhD students; participating in the Department’s institutional and academic activities; securing research funding through grant proposals; engaging with stakeholders including government agencies, NGOs and the public; and contributing to the broader scientific community through editorial work, peer review and participation in scientific networks.
Required qualifications include a PhD in marine science, oceanography, fisheries science, marine ecology, marine biology or a related discipline; a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals; experience supervising graduate students and teaching at the university level; a clear research agenda and the ability to secure research funding; and excellent communication skills in Spanish and English.
