The position is full-year (project length 12 months or more) and combines field and office work across the Clearwater River, lower Salmon River, and Snake River drainages. The Technician supports anadromous fish harvest monitoring through angler interviews, creel surveys, and snorkel surveys on rivers and tributaries; deploys, retrieves, and maintains fish-marking and tagging equipment; collects biological samples (scales, otoliths, length, weight, and tissue) following established protocols; enters and quality-checks data using project databases and standard software; and supports the project lead and biologists with reporting, equipment preparation, and field logistics.

Additional duties include working independently and as part of small field crews in remote and sometimes hazardous river settings, maintaining vehicles, boats, and field gear, supporting public outreach during angler interactions, and contributing to project safety, training, and continuous improvement of field methods. The Technician will be expected to work outdoors in variable weather, lift and carry heavy field equipment, and work irregular hours including weekends and early mornings during peak monitoring periods.

Required qualifications include a degree in fisheries, biology, or a related natural-resource field, or equivalent experience; prior field experience with creel surveys, salmonid biology, snorkel surveys, or similar fisheries work; comfort working in and around water and operating small boats; the ability to safely lift and carry heavy gear; strong attention to detail in data collection and record-keeping; and a valid driver license. Benefits include Life, LTD, and AD&D coverage; eligibility for medical, dental, and vision insurance; short-term disability; voluntary Life/LTD/AD&D; flexible spending and deferred compensation; and up to 120 hours of vacation in the first three years (increasing with service to a maximum of 192 hours per year).
