Fisheries Analyst

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is recruiting a Fisheries Analyst to support FAO’s fisheries and aquaculture work in Lebanon. FAO is the UN specialised agency responsible for international efforts to defeat hunger and improve nutrition and food security, with active fisheries and aquaculture programmes across the Mediterranean, Near East and North Africa regions. The position is open to Lebanese nationals only.
The Fisheries Analyst will support FAO’s work on fisheries policy, management, statistics, research and capacity building in Lebanon, in close coordination with the Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture, partner organisations and FAO’s Sub-Regional Office. Responsibilities include providing technical analysis on fisheries policy, management, statistics and economics in Lebanon; supporting the development and implementation of fisheries projects and programmes; engaging with the Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture, other government agencies, the fishing industry, cooperatives, NGOs and academic partners; supporting data collection, analysis and reporting on fisheries indicators; contributing to FAO’s broader fisheries work in the Mediterranean and Near East; and supporting capacity building and training activities.
Required qualifications include a relevant degree (fisheries science, marine biology, fisheries economics, marine resource management or related); experience in fisheries analysis, policy or management; understanding of Lebanon’s fisheries sector; strong written and verbal communication skills in Arabic, English and ideally French; the ability to work with government, industry, academia and NGO partners; and Lebanese nationality (the position is open to Lebanese nationals only).
