Marine Technology Society (MTS)
The Marine Technology Society (MTS) is recruiting a Chief Operating Officer to lead the Society’s operations, finance, programmes and member services. MTS is the leading professional society for engineers, scientists, technologists, managers, educators and students working in marine technology, ocean engineering and ocean science, with a global membership and a portfolio of conferences, publications, professional development programmes and industry partnerships including OCEANS, the flagship marine technology conference series.
The COO leads MTS’s day-to-day operations and programme delivery, working closely with the CEO and the Board of Directors. Responsibilities include overseeing the Society’s operations, finance, programmes and member services; managing staff and contractors; overseeing the delivery of the OCEANS conference series in partnership with IEEE OES and host committees; supporting the development and growth of MTS’s other conferences, professional development programmes, publications and member services; managing the Society’s finances, budgeting and operations; supporting the CEO in strategic planning, governance and external engagement; supporting fundraising, partnerships and industry engagement; and contributing to the Society’s broader strategy and culture.
Required qualifications include significant senior leadership experience in a professional society, non-profit, conference organisation, member organisation or industry association; understanding of marine technology, ocean engineering, ocean science or related fields; demonstrated experience managing staff, budgets and operations; experience with conference and event delivery; experience with member services and engagement; strong written and verbal communication skills; the ability to work with diverse stakeholders including academia, industry, government and the military; and commitment to MTS’s mission to advance marine technology and ocean science.
