Seaweed Scotland (the Scottish Seaweed Industry Association) is recruiting a Chief Executive Officer (Maternity Cover) to lead the organisation through a period of significant growth for Scotland’s seaweed industry. Seaweed Scotland is the trade association representing Scotland’s seaweed growers, harvesters, processors, researchers and supporters, working to support the sustainable development of a thriving and well-regulated seaweed industry in Scotland.
The CEO leads Seaweed Scotland’s strategy, advocacy, member services, communications and operations, reporting to the Board of Directors. Responsibilities include leading the implementation of the organisation’s strategic plan; representing the seaweed industry to Scottish Government, Marine Scotland, regulators, statutory partners, scientists and the media; supporting members including seaweed growers, harvesters, processors and researchers; convening industry events, working groups and the annual conference; leading policy and advocacy work including on licensing, planning, environmental management and sustainability; managing member communications including the website, newsletter and social media; supporting grant fundraising and partnerships; and managing the organisation’s finances, governance and operations.
The role is part-time maternity cover, with the FTE equivalent of £45,000 – £50,000 per year. Required qualifications include significant senior leadership or industry association experience; understanding of Scotland’s seaweed industry, aquaculture or marine sector; experience in policy, advocacy or stakeholder engagement; excellent written and verbal communication skills including media engagement; financial and operational management experience; the ability to work with diverse stakeholders including industry, government, regulators and scientists; the ability to travel across Scotland; and commitment to the sustainable development of Scotland’s seaweed industry.
