Mangrove Action Project
Mangrove Action Project (MAP) is recruiting a Chief Executive Officer to lead the organisation into its next chapter of growth and impact. MAP is a US-based non-profit founded in 1992, working globally to conserve, restore and sustainably manage mangrove forest ecosystems. The organisation has supported community-based mangrove restoration in dozens of countries, pioneered the Community-Based Ecological Mangrove Restoration (CBEMR) methodology, and works at the intersection of community-led conservation, scientific research, policy advocacy and education.
The CEO leads MAP’s strategy, programmes, fundraising, communications and operations, reporting to the Board of Directors. Responsibilities include leading the development and implementation of MAP’s strategic plan; overseeing programme delivery across MAP’s global portfolio; leading fundraising including major donor cultivation, foundation grants and institutional partnerships; representing MAP to external stakeholders including governments, donors, conservation organisations and the media; managing the organisation’s finances, governance and operations; building and leading a global team; supporting Board governance; and championing the CBEMR methodology and MAP’s community-led approach to mangrove conservation.
Required qualifications include significant senior leadership experience in a conservation, environmental or international development organisation; a demonstrated track record of fundraising including major donors, foundations and institutional funders; strong understanding of mangrove ecosystems, coastal conservation or community-based conservation; excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ability to represent the organisation to diverse audiences; experience leading globally distributed teams; financial and operational management experience; commitment to MAP’s mission, values and community-led approach; and the ability to travel internationally.
