Associate Program Director (Vanuatu/Samoa)

The Waitt Foundation and Waitt Institute are recruiting an Associate Program Director to lead the Foundation and Institute’s work in Vanuatu and Samoa. The Waitt Institute and Waitt Foundation are global ocean conservation organisations working in partnership with governments and communities to develop and implement comprehensive ocean policy and management. The Institute’s flagship Blue Halo Initiative supports countries in designing and implementing comprehensive ocean management plans through a science-based, stakeholder-driven process.
The Associate Program Director leads programme strategy, implementation, fundraising and partnerships for the Foundation and Institute’s work in Vanuatu and Samoa. Responsibilities include leading the design and delivery of Blue Halo and other ocean programmes in Vanuatu and Samoa; engaging with national governments, ministries of fisheries and environment, local communities, NGO partners and donor agencies; supporting marine spatial planning, MPA design, fisheries management and ocean policy work; managing in-country and Pacific-region staff and consultants; managing programme budgets, contracts and reporting; supporting fundraising, donor stewardship and grant reporting; representing the Foundation and Institute to external stakeholders; contributing to the organisations’ broader Pacific Islands and global strategy; and supporting communications including reports, web content and donor materials.
Required qualifications include significant senior programme management experience in ocean conservation, marine policy or international development; demonstrated experience working in Pacific Island countries (Vanuatu, Samoa or similar); understanding of marine spatial planning, MPA management, fisheries management or ocean policy; demonstrated experience engaging with governments, communities and donors; experience managing programme budgets, contracts and grant reporting; strong written and verbal communication skills; the ability to travel internationally for extended periods; cultural fluency including experience working with Pacific Island governments and communities; and commitment to the Foundation and Institute’s mission.
