Assistant Professor of Marine Science, Marine Mammal Scientist (tenure-track)

Eckerd College is hiring an Assistant Professor of Marine Science to fill a full-time, tenure-track faculty position focused on marine mammal science. The position begins September 2027 and is based at the Galbraith Marine Science Laboratory in St. Petersburg, Florida. The successful candidate will join the Marine Science Discipline within a liberal arts setting and contribute to teaching, mentoring, and research in marine mammal biology, ecology, behaviour, and conservation.
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in marine science (including a marine mammal course), advising and mentoring undergraduate students, developing an active research programme that engages undergraduates, contributing to interdisciplinary programmes within the College, and participating in service to the Discipline, the College, and the broader academic community. Eckerd College values teacher-scholars who integrate research and teaching, support student-led inquiry, and foster inclusive learning environments.
Required qualifications include a PhD in marine science, biology, ecology, or a related discipline by the time of appointment; a research focus on marine mammals (including but not limited to cetaceans or pinnipeds); demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching; and a commitment to engaging students from diverse backgrounds in research and learning.
