Assistant Professor of Marine Science, Marine Geologist

Eckerd College is recruiting a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Marine Science, with a specialisation in marine geology. Eckerd is a private liberal arts college on the Gulf of Mexico in St. Petersburg, Florida, with a strong undergraduate Marine Science programme and a unique waterfront campus. The Marine Science discipline is one of the largest at the College and offers undergraduate research opportunities, fieldwork in the Gulf and elsewhere, and a hands-on, student-centred learning environment.

The successful candidate will join the Marine Science discipline as a Marine Geologist, contributing to undergraduate teaching, research and student mentoring. Responsibilities include teaching a range of undergraduate courses in marine science and marine geology, including introductory and advanced courses; conducting original research in marine geology, with an emphasis on engaging undergraduate students; supervising undergraduate student research, including senior theses and summer research projects; contributing to the College’s collegium-based interdisciplinary curriculum; and participating in service to the College, the discipline and the broader marine science community.

Required qualifications include a PhD in marine geology, geology, oceanography or a related field by the time of appointment; demonstrated excellence in or strong potential for undergraduate teaching; an active research programme involving undergraduate students; commitment to liberal arts education; and the ability to contribute to the College’s collegium-based interdisciplinary curriculum.

The appointment is a nine-month academic year position with a salary starting at $68,000 per year, plus a competitive benefits package.
