Description
Maydencroft Limited is hiring an Assistant or Forestry Consultant in the Surrey or Sussex region of the United Kingdom, with a largely remote schedule and occasional office work near Dorney, Berkshire, at an estimated £33,024 per year.
Maydencroft Limited supports private landowners, estates, and partner organisations across woodland management, Ancient Woodland Restoration, woodland creation, and forestry compliance. The consultancy works closely with the Forestry Commission, Rural Payments Agency, Environment Agency, Natural England, and the Woodland Trust to deliver UKFS-compliant plans and grant-funded woodland projects.
The Assistant or Forestry Consultant supports the management of an existing portfolio of clients and woodlands, contributes to woodland management and creation plans, and assists with grant applications. The role spans technical forestry, GIS mapping, and stakeholder coordination across the consultancy’s southeast England client base.
Responsibilities
- Support the management of an existing portfolio of clients and woodlands.
- Contribute to woodland assessments and produce Forestry Commission approved Woodland Management Plans.
- Assist with the production of UKFS-compliant Woodland Creation Design Plans.
- Contribute to grant applications including EWCO and Countryside Stewardship.
- Assist with Ancient Woodland Restoration Assessments and the production of reports.
- Support planning and implementation of new woodland creation schemes, restocking, and maintenance schemes.
- Manage forestry and woodland mapping and data via GIS.
- Manage and develop a subcontractor network using the supplier evaluation procedure.
- Support the consultancy division to complete relevant documentation for Forestry Commission, Rural Payments Agency, Environment Agency, Natural England, and Woodland Trust.
Requirements
- Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Ability to use initiative.
- Good all-round knowledge of trees, woodlands, and habitats.
- Some understanding of current woodland policy and grant schemes.
- Excellent IT and administration skills, including use of GIS.
- Ability to develop relationships with colleagues and clients.
- Full UK driving licence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Good knowledge of woodland ecology.
- Lantra Professional Tree Inspection qualification.
- Knowledge of industry standards and relevant legislation.
Additional Notes
- Contract role. Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00, 40 hours per week. Option to agree different starting and finishing times or to negotiate reduced days.
- Largely remote, with occasional working from the Maydencroft office in Dorney near Windsor.
- Ideally applicants based in Surrey, Sussex, Berkshire, Hampshire, or Wiltshire.
