Description
Conserving Carolina is hiring AmeriCorps Project Conserve Members across western North Carolina, based in Hendersonville, with a $31,500 living stipend, applications due June 12, 2026.
AmeriCorps Project Conserve places full-time members with host site organizations across western North Carolina to protect the unique natural resources of the southern Blue Ridge Mountain region. Members connect people with nature, enhance quality of life through conservation education, and improve environmental conditions in WNC through habitat restoration, water quality monitoring, and public land and river improvement projects.
Members serve a minimum of 1,700 hours from September 9, 2026 to August 6, 2027, with host site placements that may include Asheville Botanical Garden, Balsam Mountain Trust, City of Charlotte Landscape Management, Keep Charlotte Beautiful, Conserving Carolina, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, RiverLink, Saluda Community Land Trust, The North Carolina Arboretum, Buncombe County Soil and Water Conservation District, and Asheville GreenWorks.
Responsibilities
- Connect people with nature through conservation education programming.
- Recruit and coordinate volunteers across host site programs.
- Support trail creation and improvement projects.
- Contribute to capacity building at host site organizations.
- Support habitat restoration and water quality monitoring efforts.
- Lead and support public land and river improvement projects.
- Participate in training and service days up to three days per month with the Project Conserve team.
- Engage in ongoing training at host sites.
Requirements
- U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident.
- At least 18 years of age at the commencement of service.
- Available and committed to full-time service for the entire term (approximately 40 hours per week over 11 months).
- Consent to a criminal history check and be cleared for service.
- Meet minimum education requirements (see individual service descriptions).
- Meet additional qualifications and essential functions for each position as listed in the individual service descriptions.
Additional Notes
- Living stipend of $31,500 paid via direct deposit twice per month, minus taxes.
- Health insurance reimbursement available for eligible members (full cost of a Marketplace bronze or catastrophic plan, or up to $100 for a higher-level plan); members covered by a parent or spouse’s employer plan are not eligible.
- Childcare assistance available for eligible full-time members per the AmeriCorps Childcare Fact Sheet.
- Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $7,395 upon successful program completion.
- Training opportunities may include Wilderness First Aid, CPR/AED, and conflict resolution.
