About This Event: This session in the 2026 DOSITS webinar series examines the role acoustics plays in the long-term observation of the changing Arctic Ocean. Presenters will discuss how sound is being used to monitor ocean temperature, track environmental shifts beneath sea ice, and build multipurpose observing networks across the Arctic basin.

Professional development certificates are available to individuals who attend or watch the archived video of all four DOSITS webinars in a calendar year and complete the associated questionnaire for each session. All webinars are recorded and archived on the DOSITS website and on Vimeo.

What to Expect:

  • Presentation on long-range acoustic thermometry in the Arctic Ocean
  • Discussion of multipurpose mooring networks for Arctic observation
  • Insights from the CAATEX experiment, the first year-long, pan-Arctic acoustic thermometry project
  • Facilitated Q&A with attendees following the presentation

Panel Presenters / Speakers:

  • Hanne Sagen — Research Director, Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center
