Dive into Action This Holiday Season: Double the Difference for Coral Reefs

Support Reef-World’s Mission to Protect Coral Reefs with the Big Give Christmas Challenge

The Reef-World Foundation – international coordinator of the UN Environment Programme’s Green Fins initiative – has been selected to join the Big Give Christmas Challenge.

Double your donation to The Reef-World Foundation in the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge. The charity is taking part in the Christmas Challenge to raise £4,000 in just 1 week. These funds will support raising awareness, building capacity and empowering coral reef-dependent communities to actively engage in conservation efforts.

In the Christmas Challenge, every pound donated will be doubled to charities who are striving to positively impact lives across a wide range of cause areas from climate change, to emergency relief efforts, health, education and many more.

Reef-World’s campaign addresses the urgent need to protect the world’s coral reefs. These precious ecosystems support extraordinary biodiversity and millions of livelihoods, but are severely threatened by climate change, pollution, overfishing, coastal development and destructive practices. These factors lead to coral bleaching, habitat destruction and loss of marine species. Harmful practices such as irresponsible tourism often occur due to a lack of education and awareness on how to behave responsibly around coral reefs.

Donations to Reef-World will be generously matched by the Big Give Champion during the campaign, meaning your money can create double the impact.

“The Big Give Christmas Campaign is a golden opportunity for people to make double the difference for coral reefs with one donation. This is a critical time for coral reefs, we are at risk of losing them forever, but there is still time to act and the time is now!” said Naomi McClure, Development Manager at The Reef-World Foundation. “Make this festive season that much more special by knowing you’ve done your bit to ensure our planet stays healthy for everyone’s future.”

About Big Give

Big Give is a registered charity (1136547) that runs match-funded campaigns for charities and special causes at key moments across the year. By connecting charities to match funders (like philanthropists, foundations or corporations) and the public, Big Give helps them double their donations. And, in doing so, makes an extraordinary difference to the world’s biggest challenges. It has raised more than £236m for charities, to date.

It’s a simple idea – when the public donates to a charity through a Big Give campaign, it asks funders (philanthropists, foundations, government departments or corporations) to match that donation. So £50 from a member of the public becomes £100 for a good cause.

Big Give has supported more than 10,000 charities and has worked with some of the biggest names in UK philanthropy and charitable grant-making, which provide match funding, including DCMS, People’s Postcode Lottery, Candis Club Magazine, EQ Foundation, Garfield Weston Foundation, The Reed Foundation, The Waterloo Foundation, The Hospital Saturday Fund, The Childhood Trust and others including high-net-worth individuals such as Julia and Hans Rausing.
