Ashley “Peach” Bueche, Dive Director & Diving Safety Officer at Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI)

For Ashley “Peach” Bueche, diving is a gateway to inspiring the next generation of ocean advocates. Growing up with a passion for outdoor education and marine science, Peach’s journey led her to the Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI) over a decade ago, where she has dedicated her career to connecting thousands of young people with the underwater world. What began as a Marine Science Instructor role quickly evolved into a lifelong mission to make the ocean more accessible and foster a conservation mindset in every student she teaches.

As Dive Director and Diving Safety Officer, Peach manages every aspect of CIMI’s diving operations, prioritizing safety while creating opportunities for students to explore the ocean firsthand. Her role also includes mentoring and training young dive leaders within the program, guiding them toward achieving certifications as professional dive instructors. Whether she’s introducing younger students to snorkeling or leading advanced scuba training for teens, Peach blends rigorous safety practices with an emphasis on environmental stewardship. She believes deeply in empowering students to explore the underwater world responsibly and develop a lasting respect for marine ecosystems.

Beyond her work in education, Peach is actively involved in conservation initiatives, including CIMI’s Kelp Restoration Project. This hands-on effort engages students and staff in restoring kelp forests, which are critical habitats for marine life and play a vital role in combating climate change. By intertwining scientific research and direct action, Peach ensures her students leave the program not only with newfound skills but also with a deep understanding of their ability to make a difference for the ocean.

Whether Peach is helping a camper take their first breath underwater or mentoring an aspiring dive leader, she finds daily inspiration in the curiosity, growth and transformation of her students. Living on the island with her husband, two kids, and dog, she continues to champion ocean education, believing that immersive, inclusive experiences are the key to building a generation of ocean stewards who will protect our seas for years to come.
