We live on a blue planet – the ocean covers more than 70 percent of our planet’s surface. Exploring both underwater and on land is the most holistic way of experiencing a destination and the interconnectedness between the green and blue. It’s also the best hope we have of protecting the ocean. We need more people to see the sea.
– Carrie Miller and Chris Taylor
Over the course of 14 months, National Geographic travel expert Carrie Miller and dive master Chris Taylor traveled to 50 inspirational locations around the world. Spending more than 250 hours underwater, they’ve created a one-of-a-kind guidebook to get divers traveling and travelers diving.
A DIVER’S GUIDE TO THE WORLD: Remarkable Dive Travel Destinations Above and Beneath the Surface (National Geographic Books / December 6, 2022 / $29.99) was created for ocean travelers. It’s written for divers and snorkelers of all levels who like to travel, travelers interested in the underwater world, and divers traveling with non-diving companions. Featuring tips on where to go, what to do, and what to see, each location includes top-rated shared experiences from unique hiking adventures to cultural practices to citizen science opportunities, as well as solo excursions for when divers and land-based travelers choose to go their own ways. These ultimate travel itineraries are accompanied by compelling stories and stunning National Geographic photography.
Miller and Taylor believe in conservation through exploration and so each location highlights a global issue such as the necessity of protecting remarkable ecosystems like coral reefs and mangroves, to sea turtle and shark conservation. They highlight scientists and organizations that are striving to make a difference and suggest ways you can learn more and get involved
