In 2017, The Revillagigedo Archipelago (Socorro) in Mexico became the largest marine reserve in North America. Known as the “Galapagos of Mexico,” Socorro is a top 5 global destination for diving with large pelagics including giant oceanic manta rays, dolphins, humpback whales, whale sharks, hammerheads, and tiger sharks! It is only accessible by liveaboard from November – May, as it is located 300 miles off the coast of Cabo San Lucas. Since the area is fully protected and well enforced by the Mexican Navy, it serves as a perfect laboratory for marine research unaffected by fishing activities, and provides magical diving experiences! You can see the results of conservation in this photo: dolphins, whale shark, and a manta ray swimming in perfect formation!
