Travel Beats 1.2 – SOFI TUKKER & El Buho – Jungle beats cocktail chic

Time to chill out with Hey Lion by SOFI TUKKER and Tecolotin by El Búho. These two songs are styled straight from jungle beats pulling sounds of drums, wooden instruments, and hints of animal calls. All while staying cocktail party chic. It’s one thing to hear tribal music an imagine sitting under a green leaved canopy but its true artistry to move that music to an art gallery opening or luxury reception.

SOFI TUKKER

Hey Lion by SOFI TUKKER album cover

SOFI TUKKER is a New York-based musical duo consisting of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern. Paste Magazine described Sofi Tukker’s release as “an insatiable dance collection of jungle-pop songs with many well-executed nods towards Brazilian instruments, poets and to the national language, Portuguese.”

SOFI TUKKER released a handful of singles in 2016 and 2017 so we feel like they are just getting started. Watch this space and keep an ear out for new talent.

El Búho from yields not from the Pantanal as you might have expected but intead from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. When was the last time you heard a band connect digital bleeps, bass, and bird calls into one masterful work of art? You’ll here it now in Tecolotin.

Check out more of El Búho online. There is even an EP of music inspired by the songs of bird species from the Amazon. Each track is built from the song of a different species, spanning the beautiful Great Jacamar to the odd Tropical Screech Owl.

Yemi Alade & Kat Dahlia – Rhythms to lift your spirit

We dare you to listen to this week’s selection and not dance. In your car, in the office, or better yet with a beer at the beach, these are rhythms to lift your spirit. Here we have Yemi Alade – FERRARI from her Album Mama Africa and Crazy Kat Dhalia Ft Gocho Dj Nando. Both hits have tribal beats with some modern flavor- but not too much to pull out of their roots. This week’s selection yells from Nigerian, Cuban, and Puerto Rican influences- all cultures that have rhythm programmed in their DNA.

Check out the full SEVENSEAS Travel Beats Playlist by clicking here.

Yemi Alade – FERRARI

Yemi Eberechi Alade is a Nigerian Afropop singer and songwriter. She made her musical debut in an all-girl group called Noty Spices in 2005, but you might have discovered her after she won the Peak Talent Show in 2009, and is best known for her hit single “Johnny.”

Yemi soon rose to international acclaim and dominated music charts in Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Liberia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and the United Kingdom, among others.

Yemi’s Afropop beats drive down to your soul and all you need to do is watch one of her videos to redefine what you thought was dance. Listen, smile, dance. Rinse and repeat.

Crazy Kat Dhalia Ft Gocho Dj Nando

Kat Dahlia was born to a Cuban mother and Lebanese-Cuban father in Miami Beach, Florida. Dahlia’s musical style has been described as being “razor sharp” lyrics and her unique, aggressive rap flow. Dahlia cites artists BB King, Miles Davis, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Bob Marley, Frank Sinatra, and Celia Cruz as musical influences. Also, in interviews, Dahlia has mentioned that legendary reggae recording artist Bob Marley, has had a great influence on her musical style.

You might know Jose Angel “Gocho” Torres from his first his first hit compilation MVP or from his production of hits like Don Omar’s “Dale Don Dale” and Shakira’s “La Tortura.” Coming from a musical family, Gocho’s grandfather owned the epic vocal group Los Hispanos de Puerto Rico. Gocho’s father is a renowned salsa trombonist and his brother a member of pop group Cultura Profetica. Even his aunt was a backup singer for a number of Latin pop stars. From reggaeton to American pop remixes you will find Gocho popping up for a long time to come.

This Crazy Kat Dhalia and Gocho Dj Nando remix blends both personalities and true talent into a hit that will pump you up all night long.
