Salary/Compensation: Starting at $17 per hour. Housing may be available.

Hours per Week: Variable, up to 40 hours/week (Total 400-hour term)

Experience Required: None required. Experience with vegetation monitoring, livestock handling, ATVs/UTVs, towing trailers, and rural/ranch work is preferred.

Job Description:

Assist with range livestock research activities, with emphasis on virtual fence collars on cattle. Job duties entail assisting researchers and/or graduate students with research activities and data collection, including but not limited to placing/removing collars on/from cattle, monitoring cattle movements, working with livestock producers and public lands agency personnel, measuring vegetation characteristics and grazing intensity, biomass sampling, and data entry. Safe operation of ATV/UTVs and towing trailers will be a part of this position. As time allows, additional opportunities to assist with ranch work or other research activities may be available. This position may require successful candidates to occasionally work long hours, weekends, and inclement weather in remote locations both alone and as part of a team.  


Position Qualifications:

Applicants must have excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, a strong work ethic, a valid driver’s license, a willingness to conduct field research under rigorous and remote conditions during variable weather conditions. Applicants with previous experience in vegetation monitoring and livestock handling will be given preference. Experience with any of the following is also beneficial: working/living in rural areas, working on ranching/farming operations, and operating ATV/UTVs and 4WD vehicles, and towing trailers.Housing:This position offers housing in an on-site dormitory with individual sleeping area and a common living area with other seasonal interns and technicians (successful candidate will not be required to stay in the dormitory).
