Fisheries Management Analyst

Salary: $35.00 – $55.00 per hour
Education Required: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant field
Experience Required: Three years in fisheries management or related field
Description
Ocean Associates Inc. provides scientific and technical consulting services to government and environmental organizations. This role supports the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Office of Sustainable Fisheries in advancing national fisheries policy and management.
The position focuses on fisheries policy implementation, regulatory development, and scientific analysis. Work includes supporting initiatives under federal legislation and executive actions to improve fisheries management, sustainability, and regulatory efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Support implementation of fisheries management actions under federal policies and executive orders
- Develop and draft Fishery Management Plans and regulatory documents
- Conduct research and analysis to support fisheries management decisions
- Evaluate scientific studies and ensure management actions address key issues
- Develop recommendations, alternatives, and presentations for management initiatives
- Conduct environmental analyses including NEPA assessments
- Assist with drafting, reviewing, and tracking regulatory actions
- Communicate with regional offices and stakeholders to support regulatory processes
- Process incoming management requests and maintain documentation records
- Support development of administrative records for regulatory actions
- Assist with permitting processes as requested
- Prepare documentation for internal and external review
- Participate in fisheries council meetings and technical working groups
- Support outreach and communication with stakeholders
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with three years of experience or Master’s degree in environmental policy, fisheries management, or related field
- Experience supporting fisheries management analysis and regulatory development
- Knowledge of NEPA, ESA, MMPA, and Magnuson-Stevens Act
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience drafting Fishery Management Plans and regulatory amendments
- Knowledge of administrative records and regulatory clearance processes
- Experience preparing environmental assessments and analysis reports
Additional Notes
- Location: Remote with support to Silver Spring, Maryland office
- Schedule: Full-time position
- Start Date: Anticipated July 1, 2026, contingent on contract award
- Travel: Limited travel for meetings and workshops
- Background check required for federal contracting
