Description
HWA Wildlife Consulting is hiring Avian Biologists in Laramie, Wyoming, at $20 to $22 per hour, with applications due June 15, 2026.
HWA Wildlife Consulting, LLC (HWA) is a natural resource consulting firm based in Laramie, Wyoming that specializes in wildlife monitoring, regulatory compliance, impact assessment, and wildlife research. The firm works across wildlife and plant resources, with deep experience in wind energy compliance and raptor monitoring.
Avian Biologists join the field team to support avian surveys and monitoring at wind development sites near Laramie. Duties include observing eagles and other raptors, collecting observation data, and curtailing wind turbines. Positions start as soon as possible. Shared field housing is available at three locations in Wyoming.
Responsibilities
- Conduct avian surveys and monitoring at and around wind farm sites.
- Observe eagles, raptors, and other avian species, identifying species in the field.
- Collect careful, accurate field data on avian activity and behavior.
- Coordinate turbine curtailments based on observed avian activity.
- Navigate remote field sites using maps, compass, and GPS.
- Follow all safety protocols and exercise sound judgment in the field.
- Work 4 to 5 field days per week, including weekends and holidays.
Requirements
- A.S. or B.S. degree in Wildlife, Natural Resources, Ecology, or a related field.
- Ability to identify common avian species of Wyoming, especially eagles and other raptor species.
- At least one year of relevant experience.
- Experience driving in winter conditions and operating 4WD vehicles.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to travel and perform field work over weekends and holidays.
- Proficiency with computers, GPS units, and other electronic devices.
- Strong navigational and observation skills.
- Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug screening.
- Physical capacity for extensive field work in high elevations, rugged terrain, and highly variable weather.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong background conducting avian identification surveys, particularly with eagles and other raptor species.
- Highly motivated, responsible, self-reliant disposition.
- Good sense of humor and strong team-oriented work ethic.
Additional Notes
- Schedule: 40 to 60 hours per week, with overtime rate paid for hours over 40.
- Field housing is shared and provided at three Wyoming locations.
- Position runs through at least December 31, 2026.
- Field conditions include remote terrain, variable weather, and active turbine sites.
