Join us at the Ocean Exploration Center and experience:
- • Immersive Exhibits: Explore engaging displays on marine life, conservation, and the wonders of the underwater world. Try your hand at a Century Dive to find all 100 species represented in the Center. Explore a stunning sculpture of a Nassau Grouper spawning aggregation using cutting-edge conservation science technology. Learn more about the impacts of invasive lionfish and see if you can figure out where the collected lionfish was living and hunting through a simulated dissection as part of the “Crime Fish Investigation” game. Learn about how REEF programs have impacted conservation and science in oceans world-wide. All of this and more will keep you busy and having fun during your visit.
- • Tours: Docent-led tours will introduce you to the new Center and allow you to get a closer look at the various exhibit halls and activity stations.
- • Live Demonstrations and Activities: We have a great line-up planned throughout the weekend.
- • Food and Drinks: Enjoy delicious offerings from local vendors, wine, and craft beer from Florida Keys Brewing Company.
- • Florida Keys Adventures: Dive, snorkel, kayak, or paddle board in the stunning waters of the Florida Keys. See below for ideas on how to plan your adventure.

How do I get to Key Largo?
If you are flying, the closest airport is Miami International Airport (MIA – 63 miles to REEF Campus). Ft. Lauderdale International Airport (FLL – 91 miles to REEF Campus) and Palm Beach International Airport (PBI – 133 miles to REEF Campus) are also options. There is not much in the way of public transportation or ride share services in Key Largo, so a rental car is recommended.
Where should I stay?
We do not have room blocks or partner hotels for the Grand Opening. There are many lodging options in the area, from big hotels to sailboat stays! To find the right place for you, we recommend checking out listings and reviews on TripAdvisor, Google, Airbnb, or VRBO. Locations in the Florida Keys are generally noted by mile marker (MM) along Highway 1. The REEF Campus, including the Ocean Exploration Center, is located at MM 98.8.
Is the event free?
Yes! The Ocean Exploration Center is free and open to the public.
Can I bring my family?
Absolutely – activities are perfect for all ages.
What about pets?
For safety and comfort, please leave pets at home. Service animals are welcome.
What about accessibility?
The Ocean Exploration Center is ADA accessible and access to the 2nd floor is by electronic lift.
