Blue Ocean Symposium 2024

“Learn about the latest science and conservation issues impacting the Gulf of Maine and how you can help!

This full-day event will feature numerous speakers in the field of marine science sharing their knowledge and expertise in various talks, including rare whale species, microplastics and human health, shark research, avian flu, and much more!

This event is in person and virtually over Zoom. In-person attendance will be at the Star Theatre, located inside the Kittery Community Center in Kittery, ME.

  • Capacity is limited for in-person attendance. Refreshments are included for in-person registrants.
  • Registration is free, but donations are appreciated. They are tax-deductible and will support our education and research programs.

This event is presented with major support from the New Hampshire Coastal Program.

  • Keynote: Charles Rolsky, PhD, Shaw Institute, presenting about microplastics
  • John Mohan, PhD, Assistant Professor, University of New England – Sharks
  • Heather Pettis, Kraus Marine Mammal Conservation Program, Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life – North Atlantic Right Whales
  • Julie Paprocki, PhD, Assistant Professor of Ocean Engineering, University of New Hampshire – Geophysics, Great Bay Estuary
  • Brendan Clifford, NH Fish and Game – Piping Plovers
  • Bob Dale, Jr., Marketing and Outreach Coordinator, Center for Wildlife – Avian flu, bird rescue

There will also be many opportunities to meet local researchers, educators, and other ocean enthusiasts, plus exhibit space for organizations attending the symposium.”
