Shark Hunters

Screen Grab From An Epic Shoot

Orcas hunting a shark

Ok so this is a screen shot so its kind of cheating, but it holds a  memory of probably one of my most epic adventure so far. I was on the shark cage diving boat when I saw the drooped dorsal fins of two orcas  named Port And Starboard, these two killer whales where suspected to be hunting and consuming the livers of great white sharks! Once arriving  back to the harbour I boarded another boat with my camera in hand and  took to the sea to relocate and capture the two infamous orcas on film.

Only an hour passed and we where in the company of six orcas chasing a pod of approximately a thousand common dolphins. The sea boiled as the dolphins fled from the predatory behemoths, the pod escaped from the orcas but the event continued to unfold as four of the killer whales turned on port and starboard and proceeded to chase them out of the bay.

Soaked and tired we retuned to the shore, the event that unfolded before me was and to the time of writhing the most epic adventure I have ever been involved in! I will definitely be finding myself searching for orcas again and hoping I get as luck as I did on that day.

The footage I shot can be seen on Shark Weeks AirJaws: The Hunted.

Growing up I always enjoyed watching the adventure films of yester-year. 7th Voyages Of Sinbad, Jason And The Argonorts and all of these classic B-movies are still some of my favourites. However, Studying these films for around five years dented my love a tiny bit and when thoughts five years land you a job in food retail, love is definitely not the word I would use to describe my studies. As time passed I kept seeing an online advert for an internship that took people shark cage diving for a month, the images of my own B-movie adventures where all to tempting. The adventures I had become a passion, and I’ve been photographing the wildlife of this planet now for two B-movie-esc years.
