Description:
Conservation International is hiring a Vice President of Biodiversity Science to lead their global biodiversity science efforts, aligning research with climate and conservation strategies and guiding the integration of biodiversity into policy, finance, and field programs. The VP will manage a high-performing team, champion innovation, secure significant funding, and represent CI at global forums to advance nature-positive solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead CI’s biodiversity science strategy across policy, finance, co-benefits of NBS, and monitoring
  • Align biodiversity research with CI’s Science Agenda and institutional priorities
  • Publish in scientific journals and advise senior leadership and stakeholders
  • Secure $2–3M annually through fundraising and partnerships
  • Represent CI globally and build coalitions for conservation solutions
  • Manage a team of 10+ scientists and support interdisciplinary collaboration

Requirements:

  • PhD in conservation, environmental science, or related field
  • 15+ years of experience in conservation science, including 7+ years in biodiversity policy, finance, or markets
  • 5+ years of team leadership and budget oversight
  • Track record in high-impact publications, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement
  • Experience with biodiversity finance, markets, and monitoring frameworks preferred
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 25%
