Senior Director, Western Hemisphere Conservation

The National Audubon Society is hiring a Senior Director to lead a groundbreaking, multi-year, hemispheric bird conservation initiative. This role coordinates with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and partners across the Americas to align on a unified, co-produced conservation framework. The Senior Director will facilitate negotiations, strengthen cross-border coalitions, and provide strategic input to Audubon’s leadership while championing equity, inclusion, and community co-creation throughout the process.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead hemispheric negotiations to secure government-endorsed bird conservation frameworks
  • Build consensus across Audubon, USFWS, and international stakeholders
  • Manage partnerships and serve as liaison across conservation networks
  • Oversee project plans with defined goals, metrics, and timelines
  • Ensure EDI principles are embedded in every phase of the work
  • Support communications and development/fundraising efforts

Requirements:

  • 10+ years’ experience in conservation, advocacy, or public service (with Latin America focus preferred)
  • Deep expertise in bird conservation and policy
  • Demonstrated coalition-building and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong leadership and project management abilities
  • Proven fundraising and donor engagement experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and public speaking skills
  • Spanish fluency required; Portuguese a plus
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%
