Project Description:
As part of our mission-based work and ongoing efforts to inspire and develop ocean advocates, the New England Aquarium (NEAq) has engaged design firm Solid Light to help modernize its wayfinding and educational exhibit displays to be more accessible and aligned with both current conservation science and best practices in visitor experience design for our diverse audience. This project seeks to holistically refresh and standardize the Aquarium’s visitor experience by completing a comprehensive update to static and electronic signage.
The New England Aquarium is responsible for developing all interpretive content needed for the redesign of exhibit signage and associated media. This includes updating, editing, and writing interpretive signage for approximately 56 exhibit spaces.
The New England Aquarium is seeking an Interpretive Writing Contractor to write and edit this interpretive exhibit copy. Content will feature topics including aquatic animals and habitats, NEAq’s work to protect the ocean, and the need for stewardship and conservation in ways that are accessible to a variety of visitors.
Essential Duties
- Under the direction of the Director of Content & Action, develop, write, and copy edit interpretative copy for educational aquarium exhibits.
- Meet with Director of Content & Action at least bi-weekly to receive assignments and provide updates on progress.
- With guidance from the Director of Content & Action, conduct interviews and research as necessary to complete writing assignments.
- Ensure copy is aligned with NEAq voice and messaging in addition to best practices in interpretive writing.
Contract Timeline: ASAP- August 31, 2025
