Description:
FAO is seeking qualified experts to join a consultant roster to support its Forestry and Livelihoods Team in projects related to community-based forestry and small-scale forest production. Experts will contribute to research, technical development, project support, and capacity building for forest-dependent communities globally.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess effectiveness of community forestry for improving livelihoods and forest conditions
  • Conduct research on enablers and barriers to small-scale forestry (e.g. tenure, markets, finance)
  • Draft technical documents and reports related to climate change, biodiversity, and restoration
  • Provide technical support for project design and implementation
  • Support training and knowledge-sharing activities

Minimum Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in forestry, natural resources, or related field
  • At least 5 years’ experience in sustainable forestry, ideally with communities and small-scale producers
  • Proficiency in one FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish)

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Work with Indigenous Peoples and small forest producer organizations
  • Experience in climate action, biodiversity conservation, and carbon initiatives
  • Knowledge of tenure rights, inclusive governance, and forest-based enterprises
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and relationship-building skills
