VIMS and Batten School Homecoming Panel and Open House

About this event

As part of William & Mary’s Homecoming and Reunion Weekend, VIMS and the Batten School of Coastal & Marine Sciences are hosting a panel discussion and open house for alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends. Undergraduate marine science majors, graduate students and faculty will discuss the future of VIMS and the Batten School, the undergraduate marine science programme, and the institution’s solutions-focused research and education.

The bachelor’s degree in Coastal and Marine Sciences launched in autumn 2025 as the first undergraduate major in the subject at a Virginia public university, with an emphasis on experiential learning and research. Students on the programme, known as Stravitz Scholars, receive full tuition support, a $5,000 stipend for independent research, internships or study abroad, and mentoring from VIMS and Batten School graduate students.
