Description: Seagrass meadows across the Indo-Pacific sustain food security, livelihoods, and coastal resilience for millions of people, yet over half of Southeast Asia’s tropical seagrass, the world’s largest extent, is degraded. Dr Rohani Ambo-Rappe of Hasanuddin University and Dr Jennifer Verduin of Murdoch University share lessons from two of the region’s most extensive and well-studied restoration programmes. The Spermonde Archipelago project in South Sulawesi, Indonesia demonstrates simple, low-cost restoration methods; Shark Bay, Western Australia showcases partnership with Indigenous traditional owners. Presenters will discuss seagrass loss drivers, restoration successes and challenges, and evidence on which factors, species, and methods optimise survival and establishment.
