Safe Handling, Release, and Identification Workshop, Warwick

About this event

This workshop teaches fishermen the proper techniques for safely handling and releasing entangled or hooked protected species, including sea turtles, marine mammals, smalltooth sawfish, Atlantic sturgeon and prohibited sharks. Attendance is required for commercial vessel owners or operators using longline or gillnet gear who hold a shark or swordfish directed or incidental limited access permit. Others who would like to attend can check availability with Angler Conservation Education. First-time attendees must attend in person; those recertifying can choose between an in-person workshop and the online course. Certificates must be renewed every three years, submitted with the annual shark or swordfish permit renewal, and kept on board as proof of certification.
